I hate blogging

Stayed up till 2 a.m. Woke up at 7. By 10 a.m. I thought it was a good time for a nap, but only because I was trying to put off writing a — yet again — long-overdue blog post. So after procrastinating on Apartment Therapy for a good hour, I put on a pot of coffee (first time ever), strapped myself to the chair (a tactic my parents used till I was six because I used to fall off at meals), and set my deadline: three o’clock. Three because after typing my third sentence I hit “Publish” instead of “Save,” sending an “in progress” notice to my dear (if few) subscribers, and I don’t want to disappoint! Or look stupid.

Did I mention I hate blogging?

**Pouring mug #4. Starting paragraph #3. Less-than-impressive speed, but still moving forward.**

For the last month and a half, I’ve had the great fortune of working for TLC as the design host’s assistant. I now know the faces of most every Lowe’s, Hobby Lobby, and Marshall’s employee in town, I can apply Venetian plaster, and I’ve met some great people.

One lesson I’ve learned from shooting a reality show where you only have about a day to transform a room is this: The biggest thing that gets in the way of achieving your goals is over-thinking. Just decide what you’re doing and do it.

I love meeting people and telling their stories, and I like to do it on camera. I’ve come up with lots of excuses for not doing this, the best of which is that I don’t have a camera. Why not? Because I haven’t bought one.

So here’s the deal. I’m getting a camera. I’ve had so many wonderful fans and friends tell me they miss my work. And I miss doing it! I loved my Fit for Friday segments, and I’d like to get involved in my stories in the same way, but with a new angle. I have a few ideas what these videos will be about, but I’d love to hear if you have any thoughts! What would you like to see?

When I started writing this post before Christmas, it was about confidence. While learning about confidence is still a big part of this new adventure for me, my post was lousy. But it included a link to this video by India Arie. It’s still worth including, even if I took out all the mush that led up to it.

Enjoy! And send some ideas my way. Leave a comment below!

Thank you, thank you, thank you. The picture of you putting on plaster is priceless.

    Happy Valentine’s Day.

What a lovely idea! It would be fun to see more Amy Hadley segments. My husband and I, and our two dogs, had to stay in a hotel for a couple of months during the final phase of a home renovation (ooof), and by the time we got back into our house with a TV that had more than 5 channels, you had left, and we were both so sad. We would totally watch something on the interwebs!

I forgot to write earlier that my husband and I saw you on a design show maybe a year ago. I can’t remember what it was called or exactly when we saw it, but your house really seems to reflect your cheery personality.

Nic — Depending on how the four of you fared, what a fun adventure to hotel it for your home renovation! I’m sure you’re glad to be in your own digs again, enjoying the updates. Sorry it’s sans Amy on N8.:)
The hubby agreed to being on “My House is Worth What” and I hear our episode has hit the rerun circuit. You’ll be glad to know in the year since they shot that we’ve installed a microwave. That’s it. Maybe you can send your people over.
I swear we’ll get a camera soon, and I hope to have some fun videos on my blog soon! Thanks for dropping a line!

    Amy…

I have a suggestion. Put an icon on your site with the label “Click here to donate to Amy’s camera fund”. We all donate… you get a camera… and the video blogging starts sooner, rather than later.

    That’s called a win-win situation.

Without more than basic cable, we can’t follow your adventures on TLC, so we certainly want to encourage this video camera idea. It’s incredible how bland N8 has become without your spark. Maybe they should have just turned over the network to YOU and you could have crafted AMY-TV and revolutionized the communications/entertainment industry? Ah, well, one can dream. Take care, y’all!
